Although the main part of IceCube is buried 1.5-2.5 kilometers under the surface, there are several sub-systems of the detector located on the surface such as scintillator panels and radio antennas. One of our first tasks was surveying the various surface stations.

The surveying equipment consists of a base, a "rover" that is moved around to various sites, and the measurements are recorded on a tablet. We were very bundled up since we were outside for a few hours in -15°F (-38°F with windchill).
